If you were to pose the question, “Where do Two Door Cinema Club live?” and someone was to answer, “Why, Bangor!” That someone would only be 66.67% correct because Two Door Cinema Club are a Bangor/Donaghadee based electro pop band. An obvious absence in the rhythm department is humbly filled by an unadulterated Macintosh and the electronic thump from the fourth imperceptible member goes hand in hand with the electro/pop direction. Their music has been loosely compared to the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Broken Social Scene but without a definitive capacity to be pigeon-holed. Melodic vocals, which hail from all three members of the outfit, infuse with guitar riffs that have been described as “oceanic” and rhythm described as “pulsing”. To get the symbolism out of the way, take your seats; it’s going to be a blockbuster!
Red Light Company é uma banda formada na Londres de 2007 por Richard Frenneaux (Vox, Guitar), Shawn Day (Bass, Vox), Paul Mellon (Guitar), Chris Edmonds (Keys, Vox) e James Griffiths (Drums). O som da banda é basicamente 'indie/alternative rock' e eles vem recebendo comparações à bandas como The Editors, Interpol, Arcade Fire... Eles estão lançando, depois de alguns singles, seu primeiro álbum, Fine Fascination, que está previsto para o dia 2 de março próximo, vem sendo elogiado por algumas prestigiadas publicações. Outra coisa muito bacana da banda são suas capas, que parecem seguir uma linha entre os primeiros singles e seu álbum de estréia, uma série de fotos de jovens amantes. Vale conferir.Red Light Company were formed in 2007. Richard Frenneaux (vocals/guitar) was born in England and spent his formative years in Australia and New Zealand. Shawn Day (bass) is from Wyoming, the least populated state in America, but was born in Osaka, Japan. James Griffiths (drums) is from Bridgend in Wales, Paul Mellon (guitar) is from Motherwell in Scotland and Chris Edmonds (keyboards) is from Maidenhead.
Richard and Shawn met on the Internet after Shawn saw an advert posted by Rich. It was Tuesday afternoon, the band had a gig in London on the Friday, Shawn heard future single Scheme Eugene and emailed Richard “I want to play my bass in London. I don't f*ck around.” Richard replied immediately and Shawn made immediate preparations to fly to London. Upon arrival, Shawn was unable to provide proof of sufficient funds for his intended length of stay in the UK and was detained for six hours at Gatwick. The immigration officer finally agreed for the band to meet with Shawn, specifying he catch the first flight back to America the following morning. Shawn adds “We all jumped into the van and had an unplugged audition and then onto the pub where Richard and I both agreed there would be no guitar solos. The next day I flew back to America. A long month passed in Wyoming, I sold everything I owned before my visa was finally approved and I returned to the U.K for round two.”

Um bom exemplo é esta terceira coleção feita pela rapaziada do team9 e do Stereogum, juntando artistas que figuraram em quase todos os Tops 2008, como Lykke Li, of Montreal, the Breeders, Bloc Party, Crystal Castles, Beck, entre outros. Uma bela junção de alguns dos melhores singles de 2008, além de alguns clássicos anteriores.

Tight Knit is the fourth full-length album from Vetiver, singer/songwriter Andy Cabic’s ever-evolving musical home base. Luminous and surprising, Tight Knit unfolds like a road trip down Highway 1, towards Cabic’s home in San Francisco. It represents a summation of the different styles and directions heard on past Vetiver releases, while it introduces some unexpected twists. Recorded in Sacramento at The Hangar and in LA at Melva, Tight Knit was produced by longtime Vetiver collaborator Thom Monahan. Vetiver’s songs have been described as “dreamy, gentle songs that George Harrison would have written in some sunny country garden.” Happily, that element remains alive and well on Tight Knit, as evidenced in songs like album opener “Rolling Sea” and “Everyday.” The album also introduces new aspects of the band’s sound with the light bop of “Sister” and “On the Other Side,” and the faraway and ethereal “Down from Above” and “At Forest Edge.” Tight Knit is layered and rich, with subtleties and nuances that reveal themselves with repeated listening. While there’s also more immediate gratification than on past Vetiver releases, Tight Knit is an album that rewards your attention.

Purpleface is the new EP from Seattle band Throw Me The Statue. The four piece, led by founder/frontman Scott Reitherman, has spent the majority of 2008 touring the US and Europe supporting its critically acclaimed debut, Moonbeams. While on the road, TMTS has explored the depths of its sound, recreating its playful mystique, and emerging as a proficient and an even more engaging live act. Purpleface is the direct result of this time, albeit showing a bit of a softer side than its predecessor.
Purpleface features three brand new songs - "Ship," "Honey Bee," "That's How You Win" - and a reworking of the Moonbeams cut, "Written In Heart Signs, Faintly." The EP's standout track, "Ship," is an understated yet inventive gem that offers the listener yet another glimpse of Reitherman's prowess and range as a songwriter.

Guster é uma banda que foi formada por Adam Gardner, Ryan Miller e Brian Rosenworcel em 1991 na Tufts University em Medford, Massachusetts, Joe Pisapia entrou depois. Seu som passeia entre o alternative rock, o jangle pop e o geek rock, são conhecidos pelas excelentes performances ao vivo que sempre leva uma pitada de humor e ares cult, o que lhes rende seguidores fiéis. Na discografia da banda, cinco álbuns de estúdio (o sexto sai ainda neste semestre), vários live albums, eps e singles.
O Animal Collective lançou no dia 20 de janeiro seu sexto álbum (nono se levado em conta o início dos anos 2000, quando se chamavam Avey Tare and Panda Bear), Merriweather Post Pavilion vem sendo apontado como o melhor da carreira do grupo, acima de Feels de 2005 e de Strawberry Jam de 2007. The Vaselines foram uma banda indie/rock/alternativa de Glasgow, Escócia. Surgida em 1986, a banda era inicialmente formada por Eugene Kelly e Frances McKee, mais tarde juntaram-se a eles James Seenan e Charlie Kelly. McKee foi anteriormente integrante da banda The Pretty Flowers com Duglas T. Stewart, Norman Blake e Sean Dickson.

God Help The Girl é um projeto musical de Stuart Murdoch do Belle & Sebastian. Basicamente, o grupo é formado por Stuart Murdoch e a vocalista Catherine Ireton (foto acima) e, pelo menos nestas primeiras gravações, são acompanhados por todo o Belle & Sebastian. Há planos de adicionar mais vocalistas, de preferência garotas, e mais músicos para um futuro álbum. O som é bem parecido com o próprio B&S.
Leoni disponibilizou mais uma música do álbum que está gravando, que provavelmente será lançado este ano. À medida que as canções vão ficando prontas, ele as vai disponibilizando em seu site para 'free download'. Agora é a vez da sétima canção, "Os Amadores" já está diponível no site do cantautor e aqui também.
