Owen é o projeto solo de Mike Kinsella, uma das figuras mais influentes da cena indie de Chicago. Foi integrante da banda American Football e também tocou nas bandas Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc e Owls (todas com o irmão Tim). O Owen é conhecido por suas melodias suaves, acústica complexa, levadas ao violão, teclados e outras guitarras, voz plangente e em algumas ocasiões acrescentando bateria. O Owen está lançando seu novo e quinto álbum, New Leaves, via Polyvinyl Records e o primeiro single do disco é “Good Friends, Bad Habits”, uma beleza de canção.

As its title suggests, New Leaves is a new beginning for Mike Kinsella/Owen. It was recorded over the course of two years by multiple engineers such as Tim Iseler (Wilco), Brian Deck (Iron and Wine), Graeme Gibson (Califone), Nate Kinsella (Joan of Arc, Birthmark), and, yes, some recording at mom’s house.

New Leaves retains elements of earlier Owen material -- but here, the arrangements are more elaborate, the song structures more complex, and the lyrics more refined. Instead of lamenting failed relationships, Kinsella focuses on the new beginnings they allow.
