The Sunday Reeds

The Sunday Reeds é um duo australiano de Melbourne, formado por Romana Ashton (vocals, bass) e Drew Jones (guitar), e que também conta com o reforço de Andy Dawson (drums). Como você deve ter notado na foto, na capa, no videoclipe e no som, trata-se de aficcionados por Jesus & Mary Chain e seu Psicocandy - e isso é bom.

Imagine uma orgia entre Jesus & Mary Chain (principalmente), Joy Division, Ramones e Velvet Underground. Linhas de baixo conduzindo, guitarra cheia de feedback, rock primitivo batido e alto, com forte carga sensual/sexual no vocal feminino. Como se Nico ou Deby Harry cantassem nos Ramones, ou algo assim.

The Sunday Reeds estão lançando seu álbum de estréia, o ótimo Drowning In History, lançado oficialmente em 13 de abril passado, com 13 faixas, em sua maioria com duração entre 2 e 3 minutos. É pura orgia noise de feedback. O disco sai via Squirrel Records e já está disponível na Amazon.

The Sunday Reeds are a female-fronted noise pop/rock band named after Melbourne patron of the arts Sunday Reed. The love-child of some kind of rock 'n' roll orgy between The Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy Division, The Ramones and The Velvet Underground. Driving bass lines, plenty of guitar feedback, primitive pounding rock beats and alto, sex-laden female vocals. If Nico had joined The Ramones, strapped on a bass guitar, and a whole lot more noise was added, this is how it might have sounded. Some facts about The Sunday Reeds: Founding members Romana Ashton and Drew Jones met at a university music course in Rockhampton, Queensland. They both dropped out of the course. Romana has a PhD in literary and cultural studies from Central Queensland University and wrote a thesis on the Gothic in Australian/New Zealand cinema. Romana named the band after reading Janine Burke's biographies of Joy Hester and Sunday Reed. Sunday Reed had a triangular love affair with her husband John Reed and Australian artist Sidney Nolan for a number of years. She, according to some sources, committed suicide in 1981 not long after the death of her husband. The Sunday Reeds' debut album 'Drowning in History' is out now through Squirrel Records and also available from amazon.com.
