Q's Top 50 of 2008

A Q Magazine publicou sua lista dos 50 melhores álbuns de 2008, uma das que mais gostei, até agora. Veja mais detalhes no site da Q.

01 Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night

Like others before them – R.E.M. and Radiohead in recent years – Kings Of Leon are making big rock music to fill big spaces, without resorting to hot air or empty posturing.

MP3: Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire

02 Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Bewitching harmonies, delicate acoustic interludes and full on rocking made Fleet Foxes the most timeless debut of the year.

03 Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends
Quite simply, it was their Unforgettable Fire. Their first properly great album. U2 arrived next at The Joshua Tree, so expect even better to come.

04 Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
A debut album so stupendously uplifting it should have been available on prescription, achieved by tapping into everything from Oirish folk to Baroque harpsichords.

05 Glasvegas - Glasvegas
In making life-affirming pop out of subjects as dreadful as teenage stabbings, Glasvegas’ was certainly the most pertinent debut album of 2008.

06 Duffy - Rockferry
Of the many contenders to be 2008's “new Amy Winehouse”, none were more successful than Duffy, annihilating all competition with magnificently infectious single Mercy.

07 TV On The Radio - Dear Science
The third album from David Bowie's favourite Brooklyn experimentalists pulled off the tricky feat of pushing boundaries while retaining and attracting listeners. Art rock with a human face.

08 Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
An absorbing, richly textured record that ricocheted between light and shade, the bone-rattling riffs of Grounds For Divorce sitting alongside Weather To Fly’s drifting elegance. It burnt as slowly as its three predecessors but, ultimately, that bit brighter.
Track: One Day Like This

09 The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely
Although released without warning there was nothing rushed about the album itself; a collection of inflammable blues ignited by Jack White’s Zeppelin-shaped riffs. No longer a side project but a classic band in its own right.

10 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!
If ever he was in danged of being viewed with an air of comfortable respectability, this was the antidote. With touches of his Grinderman side-project and The Birthday Party, this was possibly his best in a decade.
