The Decemberists - “Down By The Water”

The Decemberists está com um novo álbum saindo do forno em 18 de janeiro próximo, intitulado The King Is Dead. O primeiro single é “Down By The Water”, que tem participação de Peter Buck na guitarra de 12 cordas. O R.E.M., aliás, é influência confessa deste novo álbum da banda, assim como Neil Young, the Byrds e outras bandas com um som mais tradicionalmente "american rock".

“For all my talk about how complex those records were, this one may have been harder to do. IIt’s a real challenge to make simple music, and lot of times we had to deliberately hold off and keep more space. This record is an exercise in restraint.”

“Over the last eleven years or so, since I moved to Portland, I feel like I’ve been mining mostly English traditions for influence. I guess I’ve kind of come back to a lot of the more American music that got me going in the first place – R.E.M. and Camper Van Beethoven and all these bands that borrowed from more American traditions like Neil Young and the Byrds.”

“Sometimes I kind of miss the epic-ness of the other albums, but it’s nice to get all of the information across in three minutes. It’s like going from reading a novel to reading a bunch of short stories.”

Esben and the Witch - “Warpath” [MP3]

Esben and the Witch é um trio de Brighton, Inglaterra, formado por Rachel Davies, Daniel Copeman e Thomas Fisher. Na receita indie rock do trio, entram gothic, electronica, experimental... Depois de um EP auto-lançado em 33" em 2009 e dos singles "Skeleton Swoon", "Lucia, at the Precipice" e "Marching Song", todos com tiragem limitada em 7", o trio se prepara para lançar seu álbum de estréia, Violet Cries, via Matador Records, em 31 de janeiro de 2011, e a primeira pérola liberada é “Warpath”.

Beady Eye - “Bring the Light” [MP3|Video]

Beady Eye é, basicamente, o Oasis sem Noel Gallagher, formada por Liam Gallagher (voz), Gem Archer (guitarra), Andy Bell (guitarra) e Chris Sharrock (bateria), praticam um britpop que remete diretamente à sua banda de origem, só que buscando mais swing, a julgar pela primeira canção liberada pela banda, “Bring the Light”, que está sendo lançada como seu primeiro single (capa acima), trazendo no lado b, uma cover para “Sons of the Stage”, canção da extinta banda britânica World of Twist. O quarteto vem preparando seu álbum de estréia desde novembro de 2009 e pretende lançá-lo ainda no primeiro semestre de 2011.

Shugo Tokumaru - “Lahaha” [MP3|Video]

Shugo Tokumaru (トクマルシューゴ) é um compositor, cantor e multi-instrumentista japonês, que transita entre indie folk, indie pop, psych pop... com cinco álbuns lançados com relativo sucesso em seu país. Ele também é membro da Gellers, banda japonesa de rock. Seu quinto álbum, Port Entropy, foi lançado em abril de 2010 no Japão e está programado para ser lançado na Europa e EUA em 25 de fevereiro de 2011 via Polyvinyl Records. O primeiro single é a esperta canção “Lahaha”.

Telekinesis - “Car Crash” [MP3]

Telekinesis é, basicamente, o multi-instrumentista e compositor Michael Benjamim Lerner, nascido em Seattle há 22 anos. Seu pai foi disc jockey numa rádio por trinta anos, e o garoto cresceu ouvindo Beatles (seu pai era fanático), Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, e mais uma penca de marcos dos anos ‘60. Além dessas influências, Lerner também incorporou tendências de bandas americanas como Big Star e Posies.

Depois de lançar dois EPs que, posteriormante, formaram seu auto intitulado primeiro álbum, a banda está para lançar seu novo álbum (de estréia), 12 Desperate Straight Lines, via Merge Records, previsto para 15 de fevereiro de 2011. O primeiro single é “Car Crash”.
